I’ve created a Java class that extends JPanel, to help with redrawing images and diagrams. It uses a saved BufferedImage to repaint the panel when the image size hasn’t changed, and interruptible background rendering to a BufferedImage when the size does change, with refreshes to the screen as the image is being rendered. The refresh interval is configurable. The class is called PaintPanel, and is free for download and use under the LGPL.
